NASCA Press Release: John Schrader Announced as 20 Under 40 Award Recipient

Tallahassee, Florida — The National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA) proudly announces John Schrader, Chief of Staff at the Florida Department of Management Services (DMS), as a NASCA 2025 20 Under 40 Award winner. This prestigious award recognizes 20 outstanding individuals from across the country for their exceptional contributions to state government.

As Chief of Staff, Schrader serves as the chief operations officer for Florida’s business services agency, supervising internal agency operations and ensuring continuity of services so that DMS can better serve those who serve Florida. Schrader brings over a decade of experience in legislative affairs, budget and policy initiatives, with prior roles at the Department of Economic Opportunity, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Florida House of Representatives, and the Governor’s Office.

Pedro Allende, Secretary of the Florida Department of Management Services, praised Schrader’s outstanding contributions to the state of Florida.

“John has shown real leadership and initiative on major state efforts, including the Florida Capitol renovations, the new State Emergency Operations Center, and development of cybersecurity capabilities through the Florida Digital Service.”

Secretary Allende continued, “Although these are just a handful of the ways that John is an exceptional leader at a young age, his contributions to the Department and Florida are plentiful, impactful, and just the beginning.”

Prior to joining the DMS team, Schrader most recently served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO). Before that, Schrader served as DEO's Legislative and Cabinet Affairs Director.

Founded in 1976, NASCA is the nation’s only nonpartisan, nonprofit organization serving chief administrative officers or CAOs. NASCA provides a forum for state chief administrative officers to exchange information and learn new ideas from each other and private sector partners. NASCA engages states in transforming government operations through shared knowledge, operational excellence, and thought leadership.
