State Case Studies: Arkansas, Georgia, and Tennessee

Description

Natural disasters are creating increasing financial and operational challenges for state governments. This NASCA report examines how Arkansas, Georgia, and Tennessee approach natural disaster insurance, property risk, and financial resilience.

Through interviews with state leaders and risk management professionals, the report explores approaches to centralized risk management, asset valuation, self-insurance and commercial coverage, disaster claims, risk mitigation, and coordination with FEMA. It also identifies practical lessons and best practices that state leaders can consider when evaluating their own disaster preparedness and risk management strategies.
